BIOBED FOR SAVANNAH ANIMALS

THE PERFECT BEDDING FOR SAVANNAH ANIMALS

For savannah species like giraffes, zebras, and antelopes, BIOBED provides an optimal bedding solution that promotes both comfort and health.

Its natural willow-based composition minimizes dust and enhances air quality, creating a safer environment for animals prone to respiratory sensitivity. BIOBED effectively absorbs moisture and controls odors, ensuring enclosures remain clean and pleasant. As a sustainable, peat-free product, it aligns with eco-conscious practices while delivering a durable and natural flooring solution tailored to the needs of large savanna animals in zoos and wildlife parks.

SUPPORTIVE BEDDING

BIOBED creates a firm but yielding bedding that is beneficial, especialy for larger, heavier animals like giraffes and rhinoceroses.

The forgiving nature of the bedding reduces pressure on joints and hooves, providing greater comfort and promoting overall well-being. Additionally, BIOBED significantly improves air quality in enclosures by minimizing dust and reducing bad odors. This not only supports the respiratory health of the animals but also creates a more pleasant working environment for staff. The reduced dust make cleaning and maintenance easier and more efficient, ensuring that both animals and caretakers benefit from a healthier, cleaner space.

BIOBED IN RHINOCEROS STABLE

At Kolmården Wildlife Park, BIOBED has proven to be an excellent choice for their rhinoceros stables. With a bedding layer of 1 meter in thickness, the park has seen significant improvements in both animal welfare and working conditions.

The reduced dust levels have also benefited the rhinos, improving their respiratory health and creating a cleaner, healthier environment. The park’s veterinarian has praised the animals’ improved overall health since introducing BIOBED, highlighting the positive impact on their well-being. For Kolmården, BIOBED combines practicality and animal care, making it an ideal solution for their heavy, dust-sensitive inhabitants.

BIOBED IN GIRAFFE
AND KUDU STABLES

Ree Park has worked with bioactive bedding since 2019 and recently started using BIOBED in their giraffe stable, among other locations.
Since implementing BIOBED and bioactive bedding, they’ve observed significant improvements. One of the most noticeable changes has been the reduction in odor. The heavy ammonia haze that used to greet visitors and zookeepers upon entering the stable is now a thing of the past. This change has created a healthier and more comfortable environment - not only for the giraffes but also for guests who are given tours of the stable and, most importantly, for the zookeepers who work there daily.
The same benefits are evident in Ree Parks Kudu stable, which is adjacent to the giraffe stable. This area accommodates a higher number of animals in a shared space, and previously, the air quality was almost unbearable. Since introducing BIOBED and bioactive bedding, the situation has improved dramatically. To maintain structure in the bedding, they periodically add willow wood chips and release beneficial insects like woodlice and other decomposers. These organisms assist in the natural breakdown of organic matter produced by the animals, further enhancing the stable’s environment.

BIOBED IN ACTION

Here are some insights and recommendations on how you can use BIOBED for your savannah animals.

1. START UP

Spread the BIOBED bedding in an even layer i the animal enclosure or stable. The thickness largely depends on the size of the animal using it. The organic texture of the bedding provides a firm but yeilding bottom layer.

2. REMOVE FECES

Remove wet spots and feces regularly and refill with fresh BIOBED as needed. How much You will need to refill depends on the animal and off course the size of the enclosure.

3. HEALTHY BOTTUM LAYER

The bedding will shortly be stamped into a firm 'mattres' while the top layer will dry up quickly and remain loose in texture.

4. LONG LASTING

The bedding will form a long lasting bioactive bottum, as long as it remains somewhat moist. The microorganisms will continuesly break down the organic material from the animals.
